Grief Counseling

Are you growing frustrated from hearing phrases like, "You need to move on," or "It gets better with time"? Grief counseling offers a safe space for you to unpack your emotions without the fear of hearing well-meaning but difficult opinions from other people. Grief is a complicated emotion that at times outsiders can struggle to empathize with.

Grief counseling is an opportunity to navigate your loss. Change is difficult, but when you're able to find understanding with the help of someone else, it can make the experience feel more tolerable and less burdensome. Many people seek help for a range of losses. Some of these include the death of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, transitioning to another career, or even the disappearance of something precious. Devoting this special time to your grief in therapy can help you learn how to cope.

Women's Issues

Being a woman comes with its own unique set of challenges. Day to day, in our places of work, and throughout our lives, we encounter disadvantages in a world that has been built to support a way of life that doesn't often resonate with ours as women. Therapy for women's issues can provide you with a space where you are understood and give you the chance to find solutions, support, and validation, as these are all things we often need.

Being a woman is powerful. Finding support will only strengthen you.

Here are some women’s issues I work with:

  • Postpartum Depression

Have you recently had a baby and are struggling with postpartum depression? Welcoming a baby brings a lot of excitement and joy, but it can also be overwhelming and isolating. Having a safe space where you can communicate your struggles and fears can be a huge relief on your mental health during this time. This is a unique period in life that may call on you to redefine many areas of your life, mentally and physically, as you grow into your new role.

  • Pregnancy

Are you currently pregnant and feeling overwhelming emotions and pressure? Pregnancy is an exciting time that requires a lot of planning and preparation while also juggling the expectations that come with it. The journey to pregnancy can be difficult with a lot of anxiety and stress around the process. Discussing this in therapy can give you an outlet to feel supported and prepared.

  • Pregnancy Loss

Did you experience a pregnancy loss? This may include a miscarriage or termination of pregnancy. Pregnancy loss often involves incredibly powerful emotions that can have a significant impact on much of our lives as we try to understand questions like why did this happen, why me, and why now? If you're looking for help navigating your pregnancy loss, I can help support you on your journey.

About Julie

I received my Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University. I also hold a Master of Education degree from Manhattanville College. Combining these degrees, psychoeducation has become a critical part in my practice as I believe it’s important for us to understand why we feel and behave in certain ways. Additionally, I hold an addiction treatment certification from Yale University that supports my work.

With a wide range of experience from outpatient clinics to inpatient hospital treatment, I believe therapy is not a one-size-fits-all practice. With this I look forward to working with you to find what works best for you on your path.
