Insight Oriented Therapy (IOT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety

Sometimes we get “stuck”, where it’s hard to understand why even getting up in the morning to face the day seems daunting. We may feel weighted down, overly emotional, or just overwhelmed and checked out. If you struggle with self-confidence, if confronted with issues of emotional anxiety in relationships, or you struggle to make healthy decisions, I will assist you to gain valuable insight into how the patterns you’ve developed over time impact you in the present, and then walk with you through a door to unseen possibilities. Your first step out of suffering is to accept that it’s ok to reach for help and support, to realize that your mood and stressors are affecting connection with not only yourself, but also the relationships you care about.

As we create an emotionally honest environment together, your true voice can emerge to safely share what needs to be expressed, vulnerably, authentically and without judgment. I deeply respect each person's experience and perspective as unique and valid. Along with insight-oriented therapy and psychodynamic theory, I can bring CBT modalities into our work to support shifting out of the negative thoughts and behaviors we carry about ourselves.

Restoring Self-Esteem and Self-Worth

You may be seeking therapy due to ambivalence about your feelings of dependency on your partner, or feeling unsure and extremely anxious of your relationships breaking up, or having difficulty controlling worry that your partner will leave you. Unaddressed, these behaviors and emotions can be a major source of disconnection. I can help you understand how your bonding with your caregivers as a child may impact your relationships today. The degree to which you felt seen, heard, felt and secure growing up in your family of origin can directly correlate to the degree of safety and security you experience as an adult.

You may be feeling like you’re losing your sense of yourself in relationships where you are looking to others to validate your own self-worth, and that you can somehow never quite get enough validation to finally feel secure in yourself and your close relationships. I can assist you to spot patterns that are not working as intended, help you rediscover your own sense of self, and from there help you to find the clarity and ability to renegotiate your closest relationships and develop new patterns for living in the process that you ultimately so very much want.

Couples Therapy

Why does it become so hard to connect with the person closest to us? A relationship under extreme stress due to a breakdown in communication, difficult life circumstances, issues with sex, loss of intimacy, infidelity, the impact of narcissism and codependence or other challenges can bring us to a breaking point. My work with couples experiencing these issues focuses on bringing fresh insight and an opening to hope and opportunity for active repair and renewal to their relationships.

If you want to understand your partner’s responses to stress, you’ll seek to understand your own as well. Learning how and why each of you relates to the other through the natural impulse to self-protect, when vulnerability seems too dangerous, can create lasting change. To that end, I strive to create an emotionally honest and safe environment to allow for authenticity from each of you, for healing to begin and harmony to return.
